ABSENTEE POLICY

To be successful in Fundamental Chemistry, it is essential that you attend classes regularly. This class is designed with a lot of cooperative work and if you are not in class, you are letting your classmates down.

CHEATING POLICY

Cheating will not be tolerated.  Anyone found cheating will receive an automatic "F" for the particular assignment, lab, or exam. A second offense will result in dismissal from the course with a final course grade of "F."

EXAMS (50%)

Exams will be given at the end a combination of two or three chapters in the text.  Each exam will be worth 100 points. Only in very rare, extreme cases will make-up exams be given. Exams will comprise 50% of the grade. The lowest exam score will be dropped.

HOMEWORK (15%)

Homework assignments will be given over each chapter covered.  Some assignments will be done in groups.  All homework will be added together and will count 15% of the grade.    Late homework will only be accepted if it is turned in within 5 class periods. Homework turned in late will receive a maximum of 50%. Two late assignments will be forgiven with no penalty.

LABS/Journals/Presentation(25%)

All safety procedures must be followed in lab.  Any person wearing clothing that comes above the knee will not be allowed in lab.  Sleeveless clothing is also not permitted.  Open-toed shoes are not permitted in lab. If this is a burden, a lab coat may be borrowed. Chemical splash goggles will be provided and will be worn at all times.  We will be in the lab on most days, so it is important that you dress accordingly.
